Fall is here with summer leaving us with fading tans lines and the end of summer blues. It is time to ramp up your sweater arsenal, look for a new leather jacket, and some killer closed toes shoes. Don’t let your hair be the last on your list for a fall maker over though! The new look is all about the high bun, aka, a topknot. The best hair accessory you can have to achieve this look is a hair donut. It gives you the perfect bun in under a minute, and holds the look all day. Some even say it resembles a ballerina bun from their leotard days.
Rocking a hair bun is versatile, and doesn't tangle in a scarf or your layers of clothing required for the cold. The best part about using a hair donut is that it works best when you have unwashed hair! Adding a little Moroccan Oil to the ends of your hair and letting it soak in all day while your hair is pulled back and flawless, is a great Bun Queen trick. If you have oily hair and no time for a wash, try some dry shampoo to tame the oil and slick back into a sock bun.
Don’t forget about your makeup and nails either! The smokey eye is always a classic, and this season it is all about colored lips that make a statement. Try a reddish coral or a playful purple, even a deep shade of plum goes great with a donut bun. For nails this season it is all about grays and bold reds. Just image yourself now… cat eyes, cherry red lips that match your nails, a leather jacket and leopard scarf offset by white pearls, and a high, classic bun. Perfection!

It is that time of year again and we all wished for it; summer. The heat is here in full force, and if you live in a humid climate your hair is probably sticking to your face and wrapping itself around your neck like a noose. We feel especially bad for those of you with bangs that paste themselves to your forehead, or curl in every direction because of your glistening face. Bun Queen would like to offer you a simple solutions that includes two things: hair donuts, and the ability to braid. While we can't braid each and everyone's hair, we can offer a hair bun accessory that won't slip out of your sweaty palms.
Ladies with bangs this first option is for you! Start with an extreme part on the right or left side of your head and starting from your hairline section off about an inch back into your hair. You will be doing a French braid so divide your hair into three sections closest to the start of your part. Depending on how you want the finished look, consider if you want the braid tight or slightly messy and lose. Braid away until you get to the opposite temple. From there stop the French braid and just braid the hair down and secure with a hair tie. Next, think of where you want to position your bun. High, low, side, etc.? Pull the hair into a ponytail including the braid, and remove the hair tie from the braid once it is safe inside your pony. Next use your hair donut to tame the rest of your hair into a bun. Again consider how you want the end look and roll accordingly. If you need instructions on using your hair donut visit our instructions page and watch Bun Queen’s video.
If you are missing the girl gene that enables you to braid hair try twisting the hair instead of braiding and repeat the same steps above. Or if you are a braiding queen, flip your head upside down and start a French braid at the base of your neck and braid the bottom half of your hair while upside down. Pull the remaining hair into a ponytail and create your topknot from there.
Still lost on what to do, and all these options seem hopeless? Do yourself a favor and stick to the basic sock bun, or get a bob.

By now we have all seen women everywhere with their hair pulled into a donut bun. This new trendy hairstyle can be seen walking down the street, in a classroom sitting right in front of you, popping over the top of your office cubical, in ballet class, or out to dinner sitting right at the table next to you looking like the doughnut dessert on your plate. There are several ways to get this look and I am going to tell you how.
First option: This is called a sock bun. A normal sock is turned into the foundation for your hair bun. Cut the toe off and roll it into a doughnut shape. Pull hair into a ponytail, taking into consideration where you want your donut hair bun to be placed on your head. Pull the hair through and cover the sock. Either use another hair tie to hold down the hair, or use bobby pins to create a messy bun. Use hairspray to hold back those flyways if you are going for the sleek, perfect bun look.
Second option: If you are blessed with a full head of thick hair, this option is for you. Pull your hair into a ponytail at the desired location of the finished bun. Secure with a thick elastic hair tie, maybe two if you need extra reinforcement. Start twirling your ponytail until it naturally starts to twist itself to your head. Twist the hair starting with the base closest to you head and wrap the rest of your hair in the direction it is naturally going. Finally, add as many bobby pins as you need to keep that bun tight! Hairspray if needed.
Third option: I saved the best for last, a hair donut! You can buy one online and have it delivered directly to your door. That is just the first perk for this convenient hair bun accessory. You can use it the exact same way as described above with the sock bun, but they come in different sizes and different colors to blend better in your hair. This bun maker is the best hair accessory I have ever owned. Do yourself a favor and buy one today to get the next best donut bun on the street.

I worked in an office with only 4 women out of a 20 person
staff. Needless to say we were chatting
hourly about our lives and knew everything about each other. I could almost instinctively
piece together what my fellow female coworkers were going to show up wearing
almost daily. Taking into consideration a few variables like the weather, and
if we had a big meeting or not. To my shock I was completely thrown off when
one of the ladies showed up with a big, beautiful hair bun one day out of nowhere!
I couldn’t believe my eyes and had to immediately know what she did, and how
she achieved this perfect looking doughnut bun. She only had shoulder length
Once she let me in on the “sock bun secret” I ran to my desk
to quickly pull up YouTube to begin my search! There were tons of videos, so I
chose the one with the most hits and watched, anticipation killing me. One million views strong, I watch this
adorable girl with some sort of accent cut an old tube sock, and roll it into a
doughnut shape preparing to form a sock bun. She then used it in her hair, rolling her long
locks around it as she rolled it down close to her head. Once she was done she hair sprayed the fly aways,
and I couldn’t believe my eyes. The perfect hair bun created by merely using a
sock! I almost said I was sick so I could leave the office early to run home
and raid my drawers to try this new trend, but I waited.
Once home I tried the sock bun myself and was shocked how
easy it actually was. I now could get perfect hair by using this simple trick.
I also started to notice them everywhere, even on celebrities like Kim and
Kourtney Kardashian. I laughed to myself imaging their hairdresser talking them
into rocking a sock. It is amazing what we women do for perfect hair!
