out how to do our roll down method sock bun!

Sock Bun Tips!

  • Dirty hair works best!
    • Don’t wash your hair for a day, it makes it easier to work with

  • Stand in front of a mirror
    • It helps when you can see what part of the bun is working or if you need to cover your hair donut more in one spot

  • Make sure your ponytail is tight and secure
    • Nothing is worse than finishing your sock bun and then having the ponytail sag and fall out

  • Pull the hair donut all the way to the end of your ponytail
    • It is easier to roll your hair than tuck it in
    • The tucking usually happens when you don’t start at the very end of your hair which makes it harder to work with

  • Roll with the donut
    • Instead of tucking your hair in the middle of the hair donut actually roll and move your hair with the hair donut
    • It sounds silly but you would be surprise how many girls try to tuck their hair in instead of roll

  • Don’t be afraid to move your hair around the hair donut
    • Adjust your bun so you get your perfect look

  • Try a bun on top of your head first
    • It is easiest to make sock buns on top of your head rather than a side one
    • Once you get better you can experiment and try different styles and positions for your sock bun

  • Rolling your hair tight is going to give you a smaller bun
    • If you want it bigger get a different size hair donut or let it roll loosely
      Big Sock Bun

  • Practice!
    • It is going to be difficult to get it right on the first try
    • If you do it a few times you will start to get the hang of it and have a perfect sock bun in no time

We hope this helps with some of your sock bun frustrations. Please feel free to comment if you have any questions! Hopefully with some of these tips and with a little bit of practice you will be able to make your sock bun flawlessly!

Okay, the girl in the picture has long hair. I have long hair as well but I had to wrap the additional hair that was left outside the donut around the bun. How did you achieve the bun with all the hair in the donut?
